What is an Encryption Key? Why do I need one and what if I lose mine?

The encryption key is a 24-48 character key that the user creates during the installation and is used to encrypt your data. Every installation has its own key that is unique to that installation. When the Remote Backup program is creating the backup sets, they are encrypted with this key, which means you must have it in order to "unpack" or decrypt the backup.

During the installation, some clients choose to allow Enveloc to store a copy of their encryption key which can be recovered once during the life of an account for a $50 fee.
